As a matter of fact I’ve been learning Java (for SCJP) and Microsoft .NET (because of project change) recently.
This week I attended two crash courses:
Those courses were fine; I refreshed a lot and learned some new stuff as well. Now it’s time to play around with this knowledge in real world
I’ve updated my CV:see English or Polish version.
Appart from that, I’ve updated my LinkedIn profile.
It’s very up to date now. Feel free to read it if you’re interested
I’ve just changed the engine for my blog from Wordpress 2.3 to Wordpress 2.5.
The change is not visible for the reader but there’s a lot going on in the dashboard, starting with the layout, dashboard widgets, multiple file upload, etc… To get the full list of the changes, please look at the official Wordpress blog.
A few days ago I made a few major changes on my blog:
The engine change went OK. Once I updated the files, there was a imprefections in querying database, but clicking the suggested link on wp-admin page solved them all.
Currently, when I have some free time I browse plugins and themes - still can find something better/new. So far, I’ve installed the following plugins and I’m happy with them (the descriptions used there come from the home pages of that plugins):
- All in One SEO Pack - automatically optimizes your Wordpress blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization).
- Google Code Prettify - this plugin using google-code-prettify to highlight source code in your posts.
- Google XML Sitemaps - this plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.
- Lightbox 2 - used to overlay images on the current page.
- pb-techTags - enhances the_tags() by adding a link to Technorati to each tag.
- SIOC Plugin - adds SIOC metadata export to WordPress blog.
- Slashdigglicious - add user-submission icons and links at the bottom of each post: Digg, del.icio.us, etc.
- Snap Shots Plugin - add Snap Shots to your website or blog. Snap Shots enhance links with visual previews of the destination site, including summaries of Wikipedia and IMDb, YouTube videos, stock charts, RSS feeds and more with just a single line of javascript.
- SpamBam - a plugin that hopefully eliminates comment spam.
- wp-cache - very fast cache module. It’s composed of several modules, this plugin can configure and manage the whole system.
If you can recommend other plugins, don’t hesitate to do that - just describe them in a comment to that post. Cheers!
It was almost two months ago when I wrote the last post… Nevertheless quite a number of things happened to me during that time:
All in all, from now on, the main theme of that blog will be different - there will be definitely less about the Semantic Web and eLearning since I do not have much time for it (remember - I got employed). I plan to write more about programming issues and life in general. We will see what happens next
In general, I sit quite long in front of a computer - work, studies, some odd jobs…
Besides, I’m also the administrator (also creator) of znimky.net. This an Unkrainian project where photographies and movies taken on ukrainian events in Poland and other countries. Therefore, I must do something about it from time to time. Since lacking of time, there are long periods when I only upload photographies and do minor works. However, from time to time I just can’t help doing some more.
Recently (about 2 weeks), after work I was returning to improving this site. I did quite a good job, I must admint
Put a lot of JavaScript and Ajax. There is more interaciton now. Moreover, it looks better, to me. But, still, I see much to do… The most important is graphics…. But, when?
Not now, for sure.. Now, comin’ back to the Master’s Thesis…
C U round
Greetings from Ireland!
It’s the second time I went to Galway, Ireland. Again the Green Island welcommed us with rain…
Again, I work as a researcher, Java programmer in Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Galway, Ireland. The main topic of my research is how to adopt Social Semantic Information Sources (SSIS) to e-Learning. Actually, this is the title of my Master’s Thesis given by DERI (though I study at Gdansk University of Technology, major Distributed Applications and Internet Systems).
SSIS are semantic blogs, smenatic wikis, social semantic digital libraries. The general idea of SSIS is that they allow users to collaborate and share knowledge. Thus, great many relevant information can be harvested from them and used in learning course composition. The main problem is, how to present the collected data… Yet, these are heterogeneous environments. Semantic Web gives many help with that. By introducing semantic annotations of the data and some ontologies, information can be mapped to a common data model. This model, then, can be used in a Learning Management System as some extra information to a lesson. And there is a place for Didaskon, the e-Learning project I take part in. But, this is the subject of future discussion…
